Looking for a unique, unusual, quirky place to have a wedding reception, birthday party, anniversary celebration or a family gathering? Then look no further than Whittington’s Tea Barge. We can seat up to 28 people on board in the tranquil setting of the Thames, providing anything from a vintage high tea to a 3 course meal. A great Reading party venue.
Maybe you’d like to take a relaxing cruise up the river and enjoy a high tea as the beautiful Berkshire countryside slips by.
River cruises
Cruise the Thames through beautiful countryside up to Mapeldurham whilst we serve a Vintage Afternoon Tea consisting of a selection of sandwiches, cake, scones with jam & cream and a selection of high quality tea or coffee (all other drinks will be charged for). Each cruise lasts for 2 hours with a maximum number of 12 people. Cost £430. You may bring your own alcohol to the cruise, we will provide the glasses. Cruises can usually be booked from 3pm, depending on the time of year and the bookings we have in our diary on the day you'd like your cruise.
Please note that if the river is running dangerously fast then we will be unable to cruise, even if the sun is shining; in which case we can either hold your party/booking on the mooring on the original booked date, or re-book the cruise for a new date.
We are happy for you to decorate the barge 10 mins before your party booking, please note we do not allow table confetti/sprinkles to be used.
Non refundable deposit of £150 will be required at the time of booking, with all balances payable on the day. Cancellations made less than 7 days before the event will be liable for the full payment, this includes all events organised by Whittington's Tea Barge Limited.
Exclusive use of the Barge
For your own exclusive use of the Barge, for that special event or occasion, we offer a Vintage Afternoon Tea, the opportunity to bring your own alcohol and two hours all for £590 (16-22 people), which includes a service charge. Cost per additional head is just £27, maximum of 28 people. Please note that exclusive use is not a river cruise. The barge will stay at our normal mooring place during your booking period.
If you are looking for an evening event then we can provide a 3 course meal for you and your guests, £38 per head, bring your own alcohol. Min 20, max 24 people.

Large group booking
Large group of 8-15 may need to pay a non refundable deposit on booking (£5 per head) and any change in numbers from those booked will be charged full price unless notification is given more than 48 hours in advance of the date booked.
You will be served a Vintage Afternoon Tea, consisting of sandwiches, cake, scones with jam & cream and a selection of high quality tea or coffee. £22.55 per head, which includes a service charge. Please note that large group booking is not a river cruise. The barge will stay at our normal mooring place during your booking period.
This booking will be for a maximum of 90 minutes. At busy times bookings are limited to 75 mins, it’s quiet feel free to relax and have another pot of tea. Booked tables will only be held for 15 minutes before being released.
